Privacy policy

This policy applies to rendleman4boulder.com and to information you send to the campaign committee, [COMMITTEE NAME], through this website or by email. It does not cover other websites this site links to, including social media platforms and any payment processor the campaign later uses, each of which has its own policy.

The campaign only collects information you type into a form and send to us. There is no account to create and no login for visitors.

• Email sign-up: your email address, and your ZIP code if you provide one.
• Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you select, your ZIP code if you provide one, and the message you write.
• Yard sign request: your name, email address, phone number if you provide one, and the street address where the sign goes, because a volunteer has to deliver it and later pick it up.
• Volunteer sign-up: your name, email address, phone number if you provide one, the shifts you select, and the skills or languages you tell us about.
• Event RSVP: your name, email address, and the number of people coming with you.
• Contributions: your name, mailing address, email address, employer, and occupation, along with the amount and date of the contribution. The City of Boulder requires each of these fields before a contribution can be reported, which is why none of them is optional and why the campaign cannot accept an anonymous contribution.

Payment card numbers are never sent to this website or stored by the campaign. When the campaign connects a payment processor, card details are entered on that processor's system and the campaign receives only the contribution record described above.

• To reply to you when you write to us.
• To send campaign updates, event invitations, and volunteer requests by email, and to send text messages only if you have separately agreed to receive them.
• To schedule volunteer shifts, deliver and retrieve yard signs, and plan events.
• To file the campaign finance reports the City of Boulder and the State of Colorado require.
• To keep the campaign's own records accurate, including removing duplicates and honoring opt-out requests.

The campaign does not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and it does not build advertising profiles from it.

Contributions are reported to the City of Boulder on a public schedule. Once a contribution is reported, your name, city and state, employer, occupation, the amount, and the date are part of a public filing that anyone may read, and the campaign cannot withdraw or redact them. This is a requirement of Boulder's campaign finance ordinance and of Colorado law, not a choice the campaign makes.

Email addresses, phone numbers, messages sent through the contact form, and volunteer availability are not part of those public filings and are not published by the campaign.

• Campaign staff and trained volunteers who need it to do the task you asked for.
• The City of Boulder and the Colorado Secretary of State, as required by the reporting rules described above.
• Service providers that operate the campaign's website, email, and contribution processing, and only to the extent they need it to provide that service to the campaign.
• Meta Platforms, Inc. when you accept marketing cookies, as described in the Advertising and social media measurement section below.
• Law enforcement or a court, if the campaign is legally required to produce records.

The campaign does not sell, rent, trade, or lend your information. It does not exchange its supporter list with another campaign, a party organization, a political committee, or a vendor for their own use.

This site uses Plausible, a privacy-focused analytics service that counts page views without cookies and without collecting an identifier that can be traced back to you. The campaign sees totals such as how many people read a priorities page. Plausible does not follow you to other websites.

If you accept marketing cookies, we also load a Meta/Facebook pixel. The pixel sets cookies and tells Meta that you visited this site, which helps the campaign measure whether its ads are working. The pixel does not send Meta your name, email address, or anything you type into a form.

The campaign may run paid ads on Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. To measure those ads, the site loads a Meta pixel only after you accept marketing cookies. The pixel records that a page was visited and, when you complete certain actions such as donating or signing up to volunteer, it records that a conversion happened. It does not include your personal information.

If you decline marketing cookies, the pixel does not load and Meta does not receive data about your visit through this pixel. Your choice is stored in your browser and applies to every page you visit on this site.

Contribution records and the supporting donor information are kept for as long as the city and state records retention rules require, which extends past election day. Email addresses, volunteer records, yard sign requests, and contact form messages are kept for the duration of the campaign and are deleted when the committee closes its books, unless you ask for removal sooner.

Write to scott@rendleman4boulder.com and say what you want done. You may ask for a copy of what the campaign holds about you, ask for a correction, ask to stop receiving email or text messages, or ask for your record to be deleted. We answer within ten business days and act on removal requests within thirty days. Every campaign email also has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.

To change your cookie choice, click Cookie settings in the site footer. That removes your saved choice and reloads the page so you can accept or decline marketing cookies again.

The one thing the campaign cannot undo is a contribution that has already been reported to the city, because that filing is a public record held by the city rather than by the campaign.

This site is meant for adults taking part in a city election. The campaign does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to the address above and we will delete it.

The site is served over an encrypted connection, campaign records are stored in access-controlled systems, and only people who need a record can open it. No system is perfect, and the campaign does not promise that one is. If the campaign learns that supporter information has been exposed, it will notify the people affected and the authorities as Colorado law requires.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes will also be described in a campaign email.
